1988 - Bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland

On 21 December 1988, Pan Am Transatlantic Flight 103 was destroyed by a terrorist bomb over the skies of Lockerbie, Scotland, killing all 243 passengers and 16 crew, in what became known as the Lockerbie bombing. Large sections of the aircraft crashed onto residential areas of Lockerbie, killing 11 more people on the ground. The flight was on route for New York.
